Harpers Ferry is located in the northern region of the state of West Virginia in the USA. This town with a population of approximately 300 inhabitants is nestled within a deep ravine at the convergence of two rivers.
Harpers Ferry is housed within the Harpers Ferry National Park. The national park occupies an area of over 2,200 acres and also stretches into the nearby states of Virginia and Maryland.
July is the warmest month with the maximum average temperature at 27°C; during winter the temperature goes down to as low as –3°C. June is the rainiest months; coastal storms are common during summer.
The construction of the US Arsenal and Armoury in Harpers Ferry led to its rapid development into a centre of industry. The seed of the American Civil War is also believed to have stemmed from here when John Brown was arrested and hanged after a failed coup to free slaves.
