Weirton is a city situated in the northern Panhandle of West Virginia in the United States of America. It shares its boundary with 2 counties, namely, Hancock and Brooke County. The city is a part of the Weirton-Steubenville Metropolitan Statistical area. The total population of the city is 20,411 as of the 2000 census. 8,958 households and 5,885 families live in Weirton. The population density is 1.142.2 people per square mile. Weirton is a warm and friendly place and one of the safest cities in the country and is a great place for families.
Geographically, Weirton city is situated at 40°24’31”N 80°34’33”W. The total area of the city is 19.3 square miles, which consists of 17.9 square miles of land and 1.4 square miles of water. Weirton is a small village and is also called as Holiday’s Cove. The city of Weirton was founded by Ernest T. Weir, who built the Weirton Steel Corporation. The downtown region of Weirton was founded in the late 1700s.
