Tourist Guide Wheeling

Wheeling is located in the northern part of the state of West Virginia in the USA. This town with a population of approximately 29,600 inhabitants is the chief administrative head of Ohio County; a small part of the city extends into Marshall County.

The minimum average temperature during winters is –5°C with December and January getting the maximum snow. During summers, the average daytime temperature is almost 30°C. Maximum rainfall is in the months of July and August.

Wheeling Creek flows through the city and converges with Ohio River in the downtown area. Ohio River forms one border of the city, but Wheeling Island off the city shore is a part of the city.

Wheeling, in the native tribal language means place of the skull, and it has been so named because the local tribe decapitated a settler and displayed his head here. It also served as the state capital for a few years in the nineteenth century.
