Bloomer, a wealthy merchant, had selected this place as the most desirable location for building a mill. So the name was derived from this merchant, who built the mill in 1848. This village was settled in 1855. This is a city which is situated in Chippewa County and within the Woodmohr town in US state of Wisconsin. The population of the city was 3,327 at the 2000 census.

The city of Bloomer is located to the south side of the Bloomer town and some of the portions of the city’s urban area have been extended recently into the Bloomer Town. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.8 square miles, of which, 2.7 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water.

The city experiences 3 1 inches of rain and 46 inches of snowfall every year. July is highest with 83 degrees Fahrenheit and January is lowest with 2 degrees Fahrenheit. The number of days with measurable precipitation is 118.
