Eagle River is located in the northern part of the state of Wisconsin in the USA. This city with a population of approximately 1,400 inhabitants is the administrative centre of Vilas County.
Summers at Eagle River are pleasant with the average daytime temperatures at about 25°C. Maximum rainfall is in the month of August. Winters here are very severe; the average temperature is –18.3°C, and there is heavy snowfall.
Abundant snowfall creates enough snow cover annually for winter sports enthusiasts. In fact, Eagle River has been nicknamed as the Snowmobile Capital of the World. The city lies along a river by the same name; the river is made up of a network of 28 interconnected lakes.
Indians inhabited this area more than 4,500 years ago; it is believed to be the oldest Indian settlement in the state. In 1885 when the town was incorporated, lumberjacks made up the majority of the population.
