Milwaukee Library can be dated back to the year 1878; i.e. when State Legislature went on to authorize this city to have established it. At present, it’s a department of City of Milwaukee. It opened for public in the year 1898. The building was shared with Milwaukee Public Museum till the museum finished its move towards building of its own along West Wells Street in mid-1960s. In the year 1957, addition to Central Library got opened on the side of Walls Street. It’s inclusive of 4 fire-proof levels of having shelved below ‘ground level’.
