Oshkosh is situated in the eastern part of the state of Wisconsin in the USA. The city, which has a population of approximately 62,000 inhabitants, extends partially into the town of Oshkosh.

Almost 200 years ago, the region was popular with fur traders from Europe, but frequents attacks from Indians in the area hampered any permanent settlement from coming up.

Eventually, the development of lumber trade attracted settlers to this area. Its location at the point where Fox River enters Lake Winnebago, gave Oshkosh access to a range of waterways making it a convenient base for lumber trade. It was also established as an administrative head of the county.

The temperatures in Oshkosh oscillate between extremes from season to season. During the peak of summer, the average maximum temperature is almost 30°C, while in winters the average minimum temperature is –12°C.
