Gillette is well known for its energy resources and has vast quantities of American coal, oil, and coal bed methane gas. Rockpile Museum gives a striking view of an assortment of Kerosene Lamps, Quilts, Rifles, Native American Artifacts and other items.

The Wind River Range offers countless hiking on the glacier-surrounding Gennett, the state's highest peak. RAG Coal West provides Eagle Butte Mining tours for tourists and these tours give information on how to collect coal from mines.
