Tourist Guide Lander
Lander is located in the central part of the state of Wyoming in the USA. This town with a population of approximately 6,600 inhabitants stands along a tributary of the Popo Agie River with the Wind River Mountains looming over it at one end.
During summer, the days are warm and dry and the nights pleasant; average maximum temperature is 38°C. During winter, the temperature is consistently below the freezing point, often dropping as low as –12°C.
Its location close to the Wind River Indian Reservation, amongst the largest of the kind in the country, has made Lander a popular destination for visitors. Dude ranches, which are ranches specially developed for tourists to stay in and experience life in those days, are very popular here.
Lander originated as military post which was set up in 1869. Soon, ranchers and farmers moved into the area. The first oil well in the state was dug at Lander.
