Rawlins is located in the southern part of the state of Wyoming in the USA. This town with a population of approximately 8,500 inhabitants is the chief administrative centre of Carbon County and home to half the county’s population.

Summers in Rawlins are pleasant with the average temperature at 21.6°C. January is the coldest month; the average temperature is –3°C. Maximum snowfall is in the month of March while May is the rainiest month.

Rawlins started off as a railroad town like hundreds others which came up in the country in the 1860s. It was popular as this is where people began their journey to the gold fields in the South Pass. Sheep ranches were popular in the area at that time and quite a few still exist. Rawlins also enjoys the honour of hosting the state prison.
