In Wapiti, with the arrival of the Europeans, the need for food got increased and hunting for animals seemed to be an unlimited game, mainly elk and buffalo. Hunting for meat eventually progressed into sport hunting and with the extinction of the eastern elk; it is prohibited in some of the areas. However, there are such areas where hunting is not prohibited but it has become a sporting game for hunters hunting for elk, goose, deer, buffalo and such wild animals.
