Tourist Guide Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone National Park is situated in the US state of Wyoming and extends into the neighbouring states of Montana and Idaho. The park lies at the head of the Yellowstone River from which it derives its name. It is located on the Yellowstone Plateau which is bounded on all sides by the Middle Rocky Mountains.
Yellowstone became the world’s first national park in 1872, and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The park lies at an altitude of almost 2,300 m and has unpredictable climatic patterns. The region usually experiences moderate summers with temperatures of around 25°C and afternoon thunderstorms being a common occurrence. Very cold winters follow with temperatures falling below –20°C at night.
Over two million tourists visit the park every year.
