| Attractions and things to do |
Montezuma Castle National Monument was established on 8 December 1906. This five-storey building is an excellent example of thousand-year-old architecture. This well preserved twenty-room castle belonged to the Sinagua Indians who dwelled here in the fifteenth century. The trail to the castle is known for its picturesque scenic beauty. At some distance from the castle is the Montezuma Well which is worth visiting. This well was formed due to the collapse of a cavern. The Montezuma well has fresh water supply throughout the year from underground springs and is thus home to some of the rarest aquatic wildlife in the world. The Beaver Creek is a great place for a picnic. The monument also houses a museum and a visitor centre which are interesting places to visit. |
