| Attractions and things to do |
Craters of the Moon was declared a national monument in 1924 and it was later given the status of a preserve in 2002. The scenic landscape of this region has formed due to volcanic activity in the past, and thus, one can find amazing cinder cones, spatter cones and lava tubes in the area. This site is home to almost 660 types of plants and about 280 species of animals. The Robert Limbert Visitor Centre is just the right place to begin the trip. The Kings Bowl and Wapi lava fields are the two major attractions at the park. Other sites of interest are the 7-mile loop drive, Tree Molds, Devils Orchard and Inferno Cone Viewpoint. Outdoor activities at the Crater of the Moon National Monument and Preserve include hiking, camping exploring and lava tube caves. |
