Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument was established on 18 November 1988. This site is important as it houses the maximum number of Hagerman Horse fossils in North America. It also has a deposit of fossils of over 200 plant and animals from the Pliocene epoch, which makes it an internationally significant monument.
The best place to begin the trip is the visitor centre which provides complete information about the area. Ranger programmes are also organised by the monument authorities. This site is home to a variety of migratory birds like the Canada geese, Rudy ducks and the mallards. Some of the main nearby attractions are the Craters of the Moon National Monument, City of Rocks National Reserve and Minidoka Internment National Monument. |
