A part of the Batemans Shelf Marine Bioregion, the Batemans Marine Park stretches from Batemans Bay to Bermagui. The zoning plan of the park recently came into effect in June 2007. It is the sixth national park in New South Wales with an area of approximately 850 sq km.
The park consists of marine reserves along the state’s coast, which have been d to conserve fish stocks and promote biodiversity in the area. This park protects key habitat sites for the endangered grey nurse shark. The zoning plan ensures that 19% of the marine park is fully protected as a sanctuary.
Water activities that visitors can enjoy include swimming and boating. The adventurous can attempt diving and surfing. Netting and fishing are to be carried out only in permissible areas.
