Established in 1967, Mutawintji Historic Site was returned to its traditional aboriginal owners, the Mutawintji, in 1998. This site commemorates one of the best collections of Aboriginal Rock Art in New South Wales.
The Historic Site is located within the park Mutawintji National Park, and visitors can therefore access the park’s scenic landscape of woodlands, gorges, caves and rock pools. Visitors have the opportunity to view wildlife such as kangaroos, wallabies and emus.
The Mutawintji Cultural Resource Centre contains mythological murals depicting the story of the Mutawintji people. Guided tours of the area are held regularly. Bushwalking and trekking are a good way to explore the surroundings.
