Solitary Islands Marine Park was the first marine park to be established in the state. The park extends along 75 km of coast from Muttonbird Island to Plover Island.
The marine park contains a diverse range of habitats including sandy beaches, estuaries, rocky shores, reefs and open oceans. It shelters over 280 species of fish, 600 species of molluscs and around 90 species of coral.
Both commercial and recreational fishing are permitted within certain zones of the park such as Clarence River. For a unique experience, try whale-watching. A number of tour operators offer boat trips and island visits. Glass-bottomed boats are especially popular with tourists. Several visitors enjoy snorkelling, swimming, scuba diving, and surfing at Coffs Harbour.
