Queensland has an area of 1,852,642 sq km and a population of around 4 million. Its capital city is Brisbane.
Queensland is a state in the north-eastern corner of Australia. It is bordered by the Northern Territory in the west, the Coral Sea and Pacific Ocean in the east and New South Wales and South Australia in the south. Queensland is the country’s second largest state. The northern part of the state is the Cape York Peninsula, a triangular area which faces New Guinea.
Residents of the state are usually called ‘Queenslanders’. The state has a history that dates back to a thousand years. The indigenous presence has been dominant in the region for a long time, and the heritage of the native Aboriginal people can be found in their festivals, art and cuisine. Queensland’s people are quite friendly and relaxed and their towns are colourful and vibrant.
