Even though the Old Parliament House in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory hasn’t been used by the government in over 20 years, it’s still a popular sightseeing destination, as its building now houses the Museum of Australian Democracy. Highlighting Australia’s constitutional and political history as well as the development of the nation’s culture, the museum is a must-see for history buffs and curious tourists alike.

The museum regularly features several exhibits at a time, including those that focus on Australia’s most important political leaders, the Aborigines that originally populated the continent, the Australian media and the very concept of democracy. Its elegant halls, which also host occasional lectures and concerts, provide the perfect backdrop for an educational and thought-provoking experience.

Located in the center of Canberra, the Old Parliament House served as the Parliament of Australia’s home from 1927 until 1988.
