The National Gallery of Australia, located at Parkes Place is a gallery that houses permanent and visiting exhibitions that cover a wide spectrum of Australian and other countries' art.

La Bobine, a red and black painted sculpture located at one of the entrances to the building stands as a symbol of the international character of the art.

The painted steel sculpture was made in 1970, by Alexander Calder, and purchased by the National Gallery in 1972.

The Gallery is also known for its paintings and other works of art created by Australian artists such as Sidney Nolan, Arthur Stretton and Arthur Boyd.

There are also a number of works of art by European, English and other reputed painters of the world. However, the main highlights of the Canberra cultural calendar are the touring fairs at the National Gallery of Australia.

The visiting exhibitions include work by artists such as Vermeer, Rembrandt, Monet, Van Gogh and Picasso.
