Canberra Parks and Garden: Information about A Very Green City

A Very Green City

Observers of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory’s environmental-conscious movement have said that it has the potential to be a very green city. Many believe that the city of 350,000 people is big enough to make a difference and its tight-knit community of activists strong enough to put Canberra on the “green” map.

While the Australian Capital Territory already has more green buildings than any other state or territory in the whole country (1.1 square metres per capita to the average of .2 square metres), the territory’s government is aiming to have all government operations, such as hospitals, schools and public transportation, carbon-neutral in their energy usage by the year 2020.

Canberra’s Rock Development Group is also working on the Belconnen Markets Redevelopment Project, which will be the greenest development in all of Australia, if all goes according to plan.

One thing’s for certain — the people of Canberra and the Australian Capital Territory have their heads in the right place as the world realizes the need for efficient energy use and overall environmental-friendliness.
