With a multitude of galleries and museums such as the National Gallery of Australia and the National Museum of Australia, Canberra is a veritable chronicle of Australia’s history. Dubbed by some as stiff-upper-lipped, which can be ascribed to it being the seat of the national bureaucracy, the city is the connoisseur’s quintessential haven besides catering to all ages in its range of offerings—the Big Splash Waterpark, the Australian War Memorial, the Telstra Tower and the National Dinosaur Museum.
March is the season for the Celebrate Canberra Festival (music, food, mardi gras, raft race and parade) and the National Folk Festival. The Floriade Festival in spring ushers in a riot of floral colour.
Its peculiarly named central business district, Civic, is also the centre of Canberra’s nightlife with Phoenix and Academy. Those inclined towards culinary delights can indulge at eateries like Alanya and Café della Piazza.
