Canberra: Vacations and Tourism

Canberra, the capital and the largest inland city of Australia, is landlocked within the mountainous terrain of south-eastern New South Wales and located between Sydney and Melbourne.

This entirely planned city, built following an international contest for the city’s design, is home to a burgeoning lot of 0.3 million habitants, a fifth of whom were born overseas. Canberra was heavily influenced by the garden city movement and incorporates significant areas of natural vegetation that have earned it the title ‘bush capital’.

Its temperate climate beckons tourists with chilly winters, damp spring and pleasant summers (December to February).

Most Canberrans are native speakers of English, and at an average age of 32, the denizens are young and well-educated, with many employed by Government departments.
