Hervey Bay is a popular tourist destination for whale watching. It is a great place to relax amid the diversity of its natural wonders such as the World Heritage-listed Fraser Island and a part of the Great Barrier Reef.
Though it can be visited all year round, the best time to visit Hervey Bay is from mid-July to early November when the whales migrate to the Fraser Coast. December to February is also suitable for those who want to spend their time on the beaches. The best for caravanning is mid-April.
Hervey Bay hosts a week-long whale festival in August which is a major tourist attraction. This annual festival features several entertainment options such as an electric light parade and fireworks.
The Hervey Bay Historical Museum is maintained by a group of volunteers and boasts of an excellent collection of historical artefacts. Some of the most visited sites in Hervey Bay are the Great Sandy Strait, Fraser Island and the wetlands.
