It was named Byron Bay by Captain Cook in 1970 as a tribute to Admiral Byron. With its beautiful beaches, mountains and hinterland, etc. it is aptly known as one of the most beautiful places on the planet.
Byron Bay experiences a subtropical climate with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 28°C in summers and 15 to 21°C in winters. The best time to visit is during the winters as there is plenty of sunshine and less of crowd.
The town has a varied natural heritage. The Arakwal clan is the aboriginal tribe of the region and is still very much a part of preserving the traditional sites and the cultural values. Film making and tourism is a major contributor towards its growing economy.
