Cessnock is located in the Hunter Region of New south Wales in Australia.
It is the administrative centre of the Cessnock city council and was named after 1826 Cessnock Estate.
The city was first inhabited by Darkinjung people who came in contact with Europeans and later on their community seems to be on the verge of ending due to the result of dangerous European disease. Although the Cessnock estate after which the place got its name belongs to John Campbell’s grandfather where there was castle with same name.
The town ship came into existence in the 1850 with establishment of service centre which was located at the junction of the great North Road from Sydney to Hunter valley. At that time mining was the only source of income and employment for the people of this region.
The climate of this place is quiet moderate and can be visited at any time of the year.
The population of this place comes to 18,316 according to 2000 census.
