Taronga Western Plains Zoo, previously and commonly called ‘Western Plains Zoo’ opened on 28th of February, 1977; with the objective of providing more breeding and living space for huge animals like antelopes and elephants which required greater space than that had been made available at ‘restricted Sydney Site’. The rights of its operation rest with Taronga Conservation Society.
Zoo Friends has been actively supporting Taronga Western Plains Zoo through fund raising. Volunteers from this organization are also creating social awareness amongst the masses regarding wildlife conservation.
In the year 1992, Queen Elizabeth II had visited Western Plains Zoo.
Timings
Taronga Western Plains Zoo remains open every single day between 0900 and 1700 hrs. It should be noted that the zoo does not remain closed even on 25th of December.
