The name ‘Goulburn’ has been given due to ‘Henry Goulburn’, by James Meehan. The former one was Under-Secretary for Colonies and War. This name had been ratified by Lachlan Macquarie, Governor. Goulburn’s Aboriginal name is ‘Burbong’; which is a Wiradjuri/Murring word symbolizing an exclusive indigenous cultural region.
Goulburn is said to have variable climate. However, usual climate is dry with temperatures averaging between 11.4 degree C in the month of July to 27.6 degree C in the month of January.
