Grafton is located at a distance of 630 kilometers to the north of Sydney and 340 kilometers to the south of Brisbane.
The city was first inhabited by Richard Craig in the year 1831. In the year 1851 the city got its official name from Governor Fitzroy after his grandfather, the Duke of Grafton who was the former Prime minister of the United Kingdom.
Earlier the place was successful in rattling and farming with fishing sugar manufacturing and tourism being the major source of earning revenue. Later on with the development of railway there was a one bridge that was known as double Decker Bridge or Railway Bridge.
Grafton is also known as Jacaranda City due to its annual Jacaranda Festival.
The climate of this place is quiet pleasant and can be visited at any time of the year.
The population of this place comes to 17,380 according to 2000 census.
