Situated at short distance from the central business district Darwin is known for the sunset market which runs every year in the dry season from May to October. Since 1975, the beach holds an event known as the Darwin Beer Can Regatta where participants use empty beer cans for building boats. The seaworthiness of the participants is tested in this event.
