The town of Katherine is about 320 km in the southeast of Darwin in what is called the “top end” of the Northern Territory in Australia.
The population of the town is 9,124.
The town of Katherine houses many churches, sporting clubs, showground and a well maintained golf course.
Located near the town is the famous and amazing Katherine Gorge within the Nitmiluk National Park which is known for many ancient rock paintings. During the “wet season” the area gets flooded as the water rises up to 18m in the narrow passages. The park also features many recreational activities like fishing, swimming, camping, boat cruises and canoeing.
Katherine is located along the river banks of Katherine River and the topography of the area is principally tropical savanna woodland. The town is set amidst Karst scenery of ancient outcrops, limestone formations and subterranean caves.
The climate of this town is monsoonal subtropical with unique dry and wet seasons.
