Nitmiluk National Park
This national park lies in the Northern Territory and is 244 km to the southeast of Darwin, which has been formed around numerous gorges along the Edith Falls and Katherine River. The park was initially named the Katherine Gorge National Park and the parks northern corner borders Kakadu National Park. The park has a visitor centre which provides guided tours explaining the landscape, geology and aboriginal history of the park.
Katherine Gorge
The Katherine Gorge is a deep gorge which is carved with the help of ancient sandstone by the Katherine River which is major attraction and the entire gorge comprises of thirteen gorges.
In the period between April to October generally dry period the Katherine Gorge waters are perfect for canoeing and swimming. Fresh water crocodiles are found in some parts of the river along with cruises of different lengths goes till the fifth gorge.
