Mataranka, a province of Australia is home to a community of around 400 people. It is situated 420 km southeast of Darwin and 107 km south from Katherine. The city is near to the Mataranka Hot Springs and Roper River. In Jeannie Gunn's autobiography, ‘We of the Never Never’, Mataranka was the background locality. Jeannie and her husband lived in the farmhouse which was later reformed near the hot springs. Town station is a part of Katherine Rural College of Charles Darwin University. The Australian Camp Hospital and Australian Army group No.42 is situated near Mataranka. The city had an ammunition storage area and Australian Advanced Ordnance workshops. Even though the city is small, the cattle stations and native communities are well equipped with facilities that serve tourists. The city is loaded with camping grounds, supermarkets and accommodation. The spring season brings clear, warm and natural environment. The coasts of the rivers have charming trees and grasses and appealing birds.
