Tourist Guide Tiwi Islands
The Tiwi Islands is located in the state of the Northern Territory which is 80km to the north of Darwin at the junction of the Timor Sea and Arafura Sea. This island is surrounded by the Bathurst Island and the Melville Island. Tiwi Islands covers a total area of 8,320 km. At the beginning of Shoal Bay is situated the Buchanan Island and this area has been occupied by the Tiwi’s. They have been located earlier than the European settlement which was in Australia. In the year 1996 the town contained a population of 2,033 among which 93.8% of them were Aboriginal. The residential people of the island primarily speak in the Tiwi language and use English as a second language. The Local Government of this Island was well-known in the year 2001, as earlier the government of councils had three communities namely Nguiu, Milikapiti and Pirlangimpi.
