The island of Tiwi is basically a bio diverse hotspot which has dissimilar landscapes ranging from rainforest of the tropical savannah to the eucalyptus forests. The estuaries and seas are surrounded by island and this island is home to several species of reptiles having the largest quantity of saltwater crocodiles and sharks. Previously this island had a number of flat areas so it was known as woodland. The island has a number of such places which are known for mineral sands such as rutile and zircon. These mineral sands are exported to China, which help the people to earn some money. In 1941 a sportsmen called John Pye introducing the game of football, which is most famous in Tiwi Islands. For transportation the people use the services of the airport. The name of the airport is Nguiu and services of ferry Arafura Pearl operates between Tiwi islands and the Cullen Bay, which is located in Darwin Island.
