Port Douglas is a nature lover’s paradise. The Great Barrier Reef, on the coast of the Coral Sea, is a rarity, nurturing beautiful coral gardens and numerous other forms of marine life. Snorkelling and scuba diving are the best ways to explore the reef.
The Tropical Rain Forests are protected in an enclosed area of around 17,000 ha which is known as the Daintree National Park; it is best explored on a 4WD Safari.
Mossman, a small town surrounded by mountains, has picturesque scenic beauty and is a must-see destination. Mossman Gorge is home to the area’s traditional kuku yalanji people.
Art lovers will enjoy their day at the Port Douglas Court House Museum featuring the age-old traditions and art forms of the region. There are also a number of other historical sites in Port Douglas.
Port Douglas also boasts of numerous markets where one can shop for local produce, including handicrafts.
