The botanic gardens cover an exhaustive area of about 52 hectares. They were found and established by the council of Brisbane city in 1970, and were opened for the public in 1976. These gardens are the second botanical gardens established in Brisbane. The location is favorable as it is centrally located in Brisbane. The older gardens could not be renovated as there was a risk of floods.
