Tourist Guide Fitzroy Island
Fitzroy Island is a solidly forested continental island situated outside Djujbirri, which is 29 km south east of Cairns in Queensland, Australia. It is located in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. This Island rises up to 269 meters in height with a lot of grand panoramas from almost all the vantage points. In the winter season, humpback whales are seen from the lighthouse. A summit walk is allowed up to 4.2 Km in circuit. A welcome Bay is available for swimming and snorkeling. There is a rain forested Secret Garden which is 1 kilometer from the place. A grassy plain connects the island with the mainland.
According to history, it had gone under water as the sea level rose some 6000 years ago, and the Mountain Fitzroy became an island. The Island’s campground is managed by the Cairns City Council. These campgrounds are not always opened for tourists.
