There are two main attractive parks; one is the Cairns Marine Park, and the other is the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. These two parks have several activities arranged for tourists. Bush walk is the main attraction of these two parks. The Bush walking track allows visitors to delve into a range of vegetation communities & scenic landscapes. Fishing is allowable in a few areas with pleasing conditions. Several varieties of fishes, marine animals, and hard and soft corals are seen. Several types of Ulysses butterflies, orange-footed scrub fowl, ospreys, emerald doves, pied imperial-pigeons, sulphur-crested cockatoos, the 1.2m long yellow-spotted monitor or the dusky leaf-nosed bat, buff-breasted paradise kingfishers, are also viewable from the island.
The Queensland Parks, Wildlife Service and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authorities protect the surrounding areas of the Island and the water.
