Gladstone is situated nearly 100 kilometres southeast of Rock Hampton and 550 kilometres north form Brisbane. The city harbour is located between the Boyne River and the Calliope River. The Cutis Island in the north and Facing Island in the east shelters the harbour. The Gladstone city includes an area of 128 square kilometres. Besides this, the Local Authority Area has nearly fourteen islands and some parts of Curtis Island. According to the 2006 census, the population of the city stands at 29288 in which about 3.5%25 are origins of Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal and the rest are of European descendants. The climate of Gladstone varies between 18.5 degrees and 27-7 degrees. The annual rainfall is recorded at 35.4inches.The city derived its name from William Gladstone, a British Statesman.
