Tourist Guide Flinders Ranges
Flinders Ranges start from 384 kilometres north to Adelaide. From the northern Spencer Gulf is the largest mountain range of South Africa. This range has an extension of 800 kilometres. This place can be accessed by private cars and taxis. Buses operated by the state go to these ranges twice in a week. Formation of these ranges started with the huge depression which resulted before 800 million years ago in these areas. During the spring season the landscape of these ranges are very attractive with flourishing wildflowers which cover the country side.
An important landmark of this range is the Wilpena Pound. The highest peak of the mountain range is situated on this landmark and it covers around 80 square kilometres. Species adjusted to a semi-arid climate constitute a major part of the flora and fauna of this region, which includes black oak, sugar gum, mallee and cypress-pine. Moister areas closer to Wilpena Pound are home to Guinea flowers, greenvilleas and ferns.
