Tourist Guide Naracoorte
Naracoorte lies at an approximate distance of around 336 Km on the south-eastern side of Adelaide and at the distance of 200 Km on the northern side of Mount Gambier along Riddoch Highway.
Naracoorte had been formed out of merger with regards to 2 towns; i.e. Kincraig, established in the year 1845 by none other than William Macintosh, an explorer of Scottish origin; and Narracoorte, that had been established in the form of government settlement in the year 1847. The ‘post office’ got opened in the year 1853 on 22nd of March. Furthermore, it was called ‘Mosquito Plains’ till the year 1861.
Historically, this town had relied hugely on wheat farming, and rearing of cattle and sheep. Off late, it has turned out to be a major tourist center with promotion of Naracoorte Caves National Park (World Heritage listed); along with wetland which has obtained international recognition.
The population has been estimated to be 4888.
