Port Augusta is located at the head of the Spencer Gulf (322km north of the state capital) and is a sea port located on the east coast of Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. It is traditionally a Railway/ Power generation town. Port Augusta is located at (32.29S, 137.46E) and has a total population of 13,257. It is the second largest urban area after Whylla all over the Eyre Peninsula. Out of the total population, 50.22% are females. Only 85.2% of the totals were born in Australia. About 17.4% of the total population belongs to the Catholic, and more than about 26.2% identify with no religion at all. Port Australia is a natural harbor and was settled on 24th May of 1852 by Alexander Elder and John Grainger. Port Augusta has a cold desert climate. Its climate is beautiful in winter and autumn. It is found to be windy and hot in summer. The temperature may rise up to 46 degree Celsius. The average rainfall in Port Augusta is less than 300mm. Here the vegetation can be best described as Arid.
