Mt Ossa, the highest mountain in Tasmania, which has a height of about 1617 meter, is situated in this park. Mt Ossa lies in the central region of Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. The peak, which is named after Mount Ossa in Greece, comprises of the Jurassic dolerite. The lower slopes of the peak are bushy but the rocks are mostly exposed towards the summit. The walk to the peak during the summer from Pelion Gap features an array of gorgeous wild flowers, which are common in that area.
