Tourist guide Devonport

Devonport can be referred to as a city located in northwestern part of ‘Tasmania, Australia’, at mouth of Mersey River. It’s primarily popular amongst tourists as a port for ‘Spirit of Tasmania’ ferries. As such, Spirit I and II go on to travel to ‘Melbourne, Victoria’. Devonport has a ‘sister city agreement’ on the official basis with Minamata, a Japanese city. The ratification of this agreement took place in the year 1996.

Maximum temperature on an average comes out to be 16.8 degree Celsius; whereas minimum temperature on an average comes out to be 8.1 degree Celsius. Precipitation on an average is 778.3 millimeters.

Captain ‘Charles Hardwicke’ was the first to survey this city in the year 1823.

The original name of Devonport was ‘Port Frederick’.

Later on, 2 separate towns were formed- Formby (on western side) and Torquay (on eastern side). The assimilation of these towns resulted in formation of Devonport in the year 1890.
