Tourist Guide Launceston
Launceston is located at the intersection point of Rivers Tamar, South Esk and North Esk. It is a city in north Tasmania with a population of 1,03,000.
Launceston enjoys a temperate climate with an average temperature of 24°C in summers and 6°C in winters. It can be visited all year round as it does not have any extremes of climate.
A medieval period town and the ancient capital of Cornwall, Launceston is also known as ‘The Garden City’ because of its beautiful setting in the Tamar Valley and its marvellous vineyards.
Established in 1805, it is Australia’s third oldest city and has several historical sites. It is dominated by numerous castles dating back to the Celtic times which were built by the first Norman Earl of Cornwall, Brian de Bretagne in the eleventh century.
