John Elliott Classics Museum
John Elliott Classic Museum is an antiquities museum which was started about four decades back by Professor John Elliott after whom it is named. This museum is considered as the best collection in Australia and second only to the Nicholson Museum in the University of Sydney.
Here one can view about 500 antique coins that date back to the invention of coinage to the end of the Roman Empire. There are also more than 100 Greek vases which are a good illustration of painted decoration.
One can also see representative objects of the culture and art of old Rome, Etruria, Greece, Mesopotamia and Egypt.
Wrest Point Hotel Casino
On 10th February 1973, the first legal casino in Australia was begun in Sandy Bay and called as the Wrest Point Hotel Casino. This casino has several restaurants and bars called as Boardwalk Snacks, Riverview Snacks, the Loft Bistro, the Coffee Shop (Buffet Restaurant), Pier One Restaurant and Bar, the Point Lounge Bar, the Point Revolving Restaurant, the Onyx Bar and the BirdCage Bar (Jazz and Cocktail Bar).
The architect of this casino was Sir Roy Grounds. It is currently being managed by Federal Hotels. There are 17 floors and 269 rooms in this casino. In the recent past, the structure of this casino has been extended. In 1984, the conference center was begun whereas the boardwalk in 1996.
