Tourist Guide Strahan
Strahan can be referred to as a petite town as well as former port along Tasmania’s (Australia’s) west coast. At present, it’s one of the significant localities with regards to tourism. Risby Cove and Strahan Harbor go on to form portion of Long Bay’s north-eastern side on Macquararie Harbor’s northern end.
Strahan can boast of a mixture of wet and mild climate. Maximum temperature recorded so far was 37.2 degree Celsius on 14th of February, 1982; whereas minimum temperature was -3 degree Celsius on 30th of June, 1983. The period from April to September would prove to be the best one to visit this place.
Originally Strahan was developed as an access port for mining settlements. As such, it was an important location for timber industry which existed around ‘Macquarie Harbor’.
Fossils of Banksia (extinct species) had been found in sediments at Regatta Point a few years back. ‘Banksia Strahanesis’ was the name given to it, on the basis of the name of the town.
Population as per 2006 census was 637.
