Wynyard is among the rural towns situated on the north-west shore of Tasmania in Australia. It is the centre of agriculture and is situated on the banks of the river, Ingles. It is located 60 kilometres west of Devonport and 16 kilometres west of Burnie, on the Bass Highway. The town was named after New South Wales Corps’s Lieutenant General, Edward Buckle Wynyard. The town grew quickly after the construction of a platform built out from the shore into the water and supported by piles. The population of Wynyard was around 4812 according to the 2006 census. It forms the part of ‘Waratah- Wynyard Council’ area. The elevation is around 39 feet. The town of Wynyard belongs to the state district of Braddon. The maximum temperature is around 16.7 degree Celsius and minimum temperature around 6.9 degrees Celsius. The town receives an annual rainfall of 997.6 mm. The Burnie Airport is on the centre of the Wynyard town. As a result of this, Wynyard can be easily accessed from Melbourne, Devonport and King Island.
